TN: 2008 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select

  • 2008 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select - USA, California, Napa Valley, Stags Leap District (10/23/2014)
We had this wine with a nice birthday dinner at home. I decanted this for 1.5 hours and continued to follow it throughout the evening. The wine had an amazing and complext bouquet on the nose. This wine is powerful - explosive in the mouth and a good minute-long finish. This wine has a long life ahead, 15-20 years or more. EXCELLENT. (98 pts.)

Happy birthday!

Thanks Mike!

Yes, Happy Birthday! We too had this bottle last Thursday. I had a similar impression. Fantastic powerhouse with much life ahead of it. This is a wine that never disappoints.

The 10’s arrived here yesterday - so tempted to Pobega one!

Jody, that’s a baller box, nice!

Happy birthday, Scott, and thanks for the note. i have a couple of these, too, and although I have never tried them I may wait on them a while longer. [cheers.gif]

Is there ever a bad time to open HSS?

Lol Scott, I don’t normally spend retarded amounts of money on Napa cab, but when I do, it’s only HSS and Schrader!

David, you’re absolutely right. I’ve never regretted opening a bottle.

Happy Birthday Scott. I’m guessing you’ll be staying on the Shafer list now.

Happy birthday. HSS is my go to wine for special occasions. Of course, it’s also my go to wine for everything else. Love those wines.

Not really. I friend who I share a wine locker with bought all the 1990s Parker driven cults for a little more than a decade. Bottle in and bottle out, year in and year out, HSS has proven the most reliable of the lot.
