2008 Rocca di Montegrossi Chianti Classico - Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico (1/28/2012)
First bottle from a case. Popped and poured into 2 375s. Then poured a couple of glasses. Still pretty dark purple. Kind of dark for a CC. Particularly, with no Cab or Merlot in it. 90% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo and 5% Colorino. Smells kind of tight. A whiff of black cherry liqueur, some herbaceousness and a bit of earth and menthol. This is very tasty. Pretty big and rich for a CC. Layered and complex. Tangy acidity. Plenty of black cherry with some earthiness on the finish. I think this will develop further and expect some leather to show up with some bottle age. Incredible QPR at a little over $20 per bottle. I look forward to seeing how this case evolves over the next few years. (92 pts.)
