TN: 2008 Patrice Rion Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses

I opened a few of these 9-10 years ago, and found them a bit course and out of balance. I mentally raised a fist at Frank Murray, whose note encouraged me to buy a case. Times have changed.

Decanted and started to drink after an hour.

Beautiful delicate light ruby, almost rose, ultra transparent.

Early on the nose was reticent, but after a few hours was a bit more giving on the red fruit side of spectrum, with hints of more, including slight green notes. The nose was the least of this wine, but since the last sniff was best, I suspect, we just drank it too fast.

The mouthfeel was terrific. No density at all, just a lithe caress. So elegant and light. And the flavor was gorgeous light red fruit, just developing tertiary notes. If the nose develops like this, OMG, what a wine.

Thanks FMIII.

Bravo! Thanks Brady…
Wondering if 2008 is not ideal for Amoureuses … Unfortunately, I don’t have the Rion version but only 2 bottles of B Serveau who was not in good health ar the time so not sure how good it will be.

This Rion is one of the very few top rank producers to remain firmly under the radar, it seems to me.

Tom. I trust my post won’t ruin the secret. What do you think of other Rion wines, say Daniel? [cheers.gif]

Antoine, do you think Amoureuses is more of a solare vintage wine? Though I have some 9, 17, and 18, I’d have thought the opposite.

2008 Drouhin Amoureuses is/was just beautiful about a year ago.
