2008 Palmina Dolcetto - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County (12/12/2010)
Consumed over 4 days. At first, this wine was quite tight and closed - very dusty cocoa powder and the fruit hidden behind it. It took a while, but the fruit finally emerged on the palate (still not so much on the nose) – strawberries, dark fruit, earth, and some leather. Not much in the way of spice, though, nice balancing acidity, soft mouthfeel…went very well with cheese ravioli and marinara. Probably a better food wine than on it’s own. Give this a long decant or let it rest for a year or two. (89 pts.)
