TN: 2008 Myriad Rutherford

I wanted to wait on this another year but I pulled the cork anyhow, and I have no regrets. This is simply wonderful, with sophistication, richness and fine balance. The core fruit flavors lean toward alluring black cherry and currant, with mocha, black tea and earthy nuances. Vibrant with good acidity and firm tannins, neither of which overwhelm. The finish lingers with rich berry fruit, and after five days this held up beautifully with no sign of oxidation. Most wines that are triple the price, aren’t this good. 93+

Agree completely. A great bottle of wine for $48! But, Mike’s GIII is Devine.

Has anyone tried the 2009 Quivet Cellars Rutherford? I purchased some for a friend and was wondering how it is drinking.

His wines are very drinkable early with a decant. Amazing is all I can say for GIII. Looking forward to some bottle age to see how it develops…

Love, love, love them. The GIII is in another world for my palate just awesome, plus they are great people.

+1… and don’t forget the Dr. Crane!!!

A few weeks ago, and it wasn’t very expressive. I’m going to wait at least 1-2 year before I open up another one.

I’ve also recently had the 2009 Myriad GIII and Dr. Crane…both are killer with a slight edge to the GIII right now but, imho, the Dr. Crane is more structured and will ultimately be the better wine. The 2009 GIII might be in my personal top 3 for most amazing bottle of Cab enjoyed way too young. I should have bought a case.

Alex,

Thanks for letting me know about the 2009 Quivet Rutherford. Myriad are one of my favorite Napa cabs and I am glad I bought my full allocation on the 2008 and 2009 vintages. I highly recommend that you schedule a tasting with Mike Smith the next time that you are in Napa since he is such a wonderful and generous person.

Had this tonight. Christopher, I agree with your note. These wines seem to be bold and elegant at the same time. There is balance and not even a hint of heat on the finish. I’m not sure is this is a wine meant to be aged for 10 years, but its awfully tasty now.
