2008 Maison Roche de Bellene Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru (9/10/2014)
A quiet Wednesday evening at Mike’s and Cathy’s. Translucid and still very primary in colour. The first pour showed quite a bit of toasty oak with dark cherry, some savoury character and beneath crisp and fresh fruit. With air, it showed more complexity and the oak integrates. It reveals a chalky and dusty character. On palate this has crystalline freshness and depth. The oak integrates better as it opens. Or course, this is primary but shows interesting elements such as refined tannins. 2008 will be a vintage of freshness and clarity and good terroir expression. Not a big wine but a refined one.
