2008 Groth Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville (5/9/2012)
Nose or red/black infused raspberries with some creamy Kirsch. Palate is dense with the raspberries, boysenberries and Kirsch. I get a mouth-coating full throttle texture that carries with it tons of goodness. Reminds me of one of my past favorites, Kuleto cabernet. Somewhat drying and big boned with tannins in full control; that control might put some off, but in 5 years they will understand its ‘adolescent tantrums’ were all necessary. Finish is true and long. Acidity deft.I get some cedar, tea and soy. Certainly not everyone’s cup of Cab, but given some patience, this should reward nicely. Needs at least an hour decant to show itself. It’s ok not to be everything to everyone— really it is. (92 pts.)

thanks. I picked up a few from GTWC on one of their “great deal” emails but wasn’t planning to open one for a while which appears to be the way to go.
Great notes Mike
I picked up a few of these
as well -to sleep
I did try one…“big-boned” indeed!
Looking foward to their development.
Cheers

This is the normal cab right, not the reserve?
Thanks Mike, I’ll have to hunt down a bottle.
Picked one of these up the other day at Costco for $34 and change, based on Mike’s notes. Not very good at TN’s myself, but will definately go back for more at this price based on tonight’s experience with it. To me it was very nicely balanced and easy to drink. Decanted for an hour and a half before dinner.
Welcome to the Cabernet Lovers board, W.

Haven’t had too many of the newer Groths. I do have a nice 1984 sitting and waiting for the right moment to show its stuff. The 1991 I had somewhat recently did not impress the way the 1984 has done in the past. We’ll see.
