TN: 2008 Grand Cru Chablis

2008 Louis Michel & Fils - Chablis Grand Cru - Les Clos

I was cooking mussels using a Keith Floyd recipe as a starter, with my main being poached sea bass. So, I felt a good fresh youthful white wine would be the order of the day. I bought this wine on release, having enjoyed just about every single 2008 white burgundy I had tasted.

Popped and poured. Pale yellow, the nose is flinty and mineral laden with a hint of citrus. The medium bodied mouthfeel is quite fine, with the taste profile building up gradually in my mouth. The acidity is slightly softer than I expected, though the palate is fresh. Good weight of flavour, enjoyable though I did expect more zing in the acidity. Drinkable now though it should evolve over several more years.

Nice note, quite a pale color Nicos. Hope the weekend has some surprises [cheers.gif] .

Hi Bob, thanks.

I do like these wines Nicos from Louis Michel. Very nice note. Glad you are enjoying the weekend.

I am spending some time this weekend tasting Chateau Margaux wines with Roy. At dinner on Friday night he remarked how much he loved spending time in London and enjoying wine with you. Hope all is well.

I’ve found the 08’s a little riper and lower in acidity than I had hoped. this made for good early drinking, but I’m not sure how it will work for the grand crus and more serious wines, most of which I haven’t really approached yet.

+1 to this.

I do love 2007, 2010, 2011, and 2014 Chablis. In fact, 2014 whites almost across the board in France were outstanding.

Actually, I’m not so sure about 2011, but I’ve only had lower level wines and haven’t broached my GC’s.

Thanks Don. Roy is a close friend and I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the time I have spent with him, as well as continuing to learn about wine (including Port). Happy to hear that you met up with him.
