Surprisingly, Del Frisco’s in Chicago has an excellent if small selection of reasonably priced white burgundies alongside knowledgeable and engaging sommeliers. Accordingly, the other night we enjoyed a bottle of Mikulski’s Mersault with some tuna tartare and fried oysters and people watched for a couple hours.
Upon opening there was a definite premox note–I can’t place the nose beyond astringent sherry, but it was what it was. Nonetheless, that blew off after about 15 minutes of air, revealing honey, nutmeg, mango, and lemon scents. On the palate the wine was as rich as the nose but still quite refreshing, with a pleasant lemon candy finish taking away some of the butterscotch and hazelnut that we got more in the middle. Well-rounded, balanced, and downright delicious to drink. Highly recommended, and particularly good with the richness of fried oysters. 92 points.
