TN: 2008 Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes

One of the better wines last night.

  • 2008 Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru (5/28/2016)
Smells like citrus and honey. Floral, like Spring. Has lost a lot of its baby fat that was so rich a few years back. More integration now, yet still kind of toasty. It shows more wiry now, in a good way. Sauzet is so problematic for me, but can be very good when good when sound.

Absolutely right about the very good when good, Dennis. For bottles unaffected by premature oxidation, I always really liked the Sauzet style. Thanks for the note on the '08.

Thx for the note Dennis and agreed on Sauzet…when they haven’t been premoxed, corked or both I’ve had a few really lovely bottles. In fact, recently had my last bottle of village 2008 Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet and out of 6 bottles 3 were great, 2 flawed and 1 questionable. I’d probably still buy them if not for the issues and PYCM.

Thanks guys, we are in agreement on Sauzet.
I don’t buy really buy white Burgs anymore, but I have a few of these '08s that have been quite nice.
Cheers, all.

I more or less stopped buying white Burgundies a bit before you, Dennis, but there was a time when I was crazy for them: I’d start almost obsessing about the one I was going to have for dinner before I’d even had breakfast.

Lol. I hear you [cheers.gif]

Sauzet made very good '08’s from those I have seen.

Also seen one very premoxed bottle, so I’d d start drinking them…

Thanks Dennis. I have a few of these. I appreciate the note.
