TN: 2008 Etienne Sauzet Bourgogne Blanc (France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc)

I have posted a # of notes on the 2008 Sauzets in the past 6 months or so. All of those were various 1er bottlings, the best being the Combettes. Roll back down to the bourgogne level, I had bought this wine last year, then last week picked up a second bottle. Opened last night, finishing it tonight. What a great bottle for the price, and the amount of slate in this wine is big time, really leaves an impression. I could damn near drink this bottle all by myself and it’s a damn shame I hate oysters, as I bet this wine would jive super with them. Anyway, this is worth trying if you can get one, I may lock in the last couple from Envoyer tomorrow.

    This drank pretty well. just needed some aeration. Kind of chablis-like with a good amount of slate, well a big amount of slate would be more accurate, salinity but then some sour apple and lemon oil to give it some frame. For 20 bucks, I like the value of it, too. A lthe wine that is full of character and edge.

Thanks Frank for mentioning this wine. Good lower price Burgundies are tough to find. Any idea on where the fruit might be sourced from…meaning exclusively lesser Puligny vineyards? I have had very good luck with Javiller’s Bourgogne Blanc in recent years. This one is a very different style…probably a bit softer. That style comes from the fact that Javillier sources fruit from primarily Meursault. Thanks again for the notes…Gary

FMIII - I opened an 08 Leflaive Macon-Verze the other night, a wonderful bottle for $29 and, for my tastes, beats a ton of chardonnay out there at double the price point. I think you will like this one too. Lots of minerality with a melange of meyer lemons and key limes and a hint of toastiness. Ask Greg if he still has some.

Too late! Doing some dinner tonight, which should be more white burg…08 Louis Michel Butteaux and I just opened the 08 Carillon PM Perrieres, which I expect to kick ass again. The minerality against the honey and lemon makes me dizzy. [help.gif]

That '08 Carillon Perrieres is simply smashing.
