TN: 2008 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Perrières

I like Chevillon and have enjoyed a # of 2008s. I still think the LSG cuvee is a rockstar bottle, although that wine has far more stuffing and structure than this Perrieres. But, for less $$ and also as part of what Chevillon seems to do well here, it’s subtle and yet flavorful. I’m having a hard time with spending the increased dollars for Chevillon for the 09s and 10s and may just decide to keep playing with the 08s a bit more.

Opened last night, note written today. Started off slowly, kind of boring really. Within a couple hours, it improved and started to reveal some nuance. Forward to today, it is subtle and delicate, showing some pretty red fruit flavors. A peppery aromatic on the nose, some vanilla infused into the palate and some finishing mineral. The comment about roses made also by another taster, I can see this note, moreso for me in the wine itself, infused into the finish more than the aromatic. I will say this for certain: aerate this wine so it will show. It has a lot of subtle flavors but they kind of build in the wine and it drinks pretty well. It’s accessible now and of medium body with some light tannin so an earlier drinker and probably not all that ageworthy. Certainly not as wow-like as the 08 Chevillon LSG or Cailles, both of which I have drank last year but this Perrieres is solid and good.

Thanks for the note Frank…very interesting.
have ploughed through half a case of the 02 Perrieres which was/is killer.
Cheers,
Kent

Great note, Frank. I had a 98 of this over the summer that I got for a song. The 98 was rocking on the first night, but fell apart on day 2. Chevillon Les Perrieres is a great bottle for the price.

Loved the subtlety of this wine, NSG’s feminine side. I’m sure the '09s and '10s are great but agree that the pricing keeps me focused on the QPR of the '08s.

Thought I would circle back on this wine, as I have had it open a few nights now. Beautiful wine but stil subtle. Mineral, yes the rose petal, just a lithe wine but the rocky note on the finish makes this super. Too bad I didn’t buy more of this when Wine Bid had it up last year.

Richard, it just chaps my asss to pay the higher tariffs on the 09s and 10s. I realize there are some reasons for the increases but I can’t just spend 100s of $$ on burgundy without a way to pay the credit card. This wine was not cheap but for the 60 bucks I paid for it, roughly, it delivers a great experience and I don’t see why I’d want to lay down a buck 50 for some other closed up 1er cru that I need to wait 7 years to drink.

More love for the 2008 Chevillon Perrieres here. It was a beautifully supple and subtle wine that kept improving over several hours last year.

Thank you for the good note, Frank. As noted below, I sell Burgundies, and I sell a lot of Chevillon. Currently, I am selling 06, 07, 08 and 09 Chevillon. Of course, each vintage has something to offer and, at maturity, who know which one (and which bottling) may be shining the brightest, but my best guess is that 08 Chevillon, from top to bottom, is going to be special stuff. Anyone who likes Chevillon, is young, and has some dry powder ought to be taking a look.
