2008 Domaine Dublère Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Les Blanchards- France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis 1er Cru (1/12/2012)
Very light colour and if it were a cordial drink you’d add more cordial. It starts off quite restrained yet extraordinarily pretty. The nose is a rose garden with some fresh berries and a strap of liquorice tossed in for good measure. It is sweet in the mouth with some juniper berry spice and pomegranate crunch. I like its energy and lacy texture.
thanks for the note, Jeremy - this is one of the few 08s I bought and I’m glad to have the note. the “lacy texture” comment interests me - what producers come to mind when you use that description?
Reminds me of the 08 Volnay “Taillepieds” from Dublere:
Spicy, floral (azalea, rhododendron) nose…cinnamon, red candy, again spice notes. Medium weight, very transparent palate. Slight stemmy note on palate. Palate got simpler with air, nose remained lovely.
I loved the nose Keith, but as I noted the palate goes rather simple with airtime rather than becoming more complex. The nose stayed lovely over the tasting, but I’d agree - the palate doesn’t hold up and the entire package isn’t really up to the standards of other Taillepieds I’ve had. It was significantly cheaper, but… eh.
Yeah, that was pretty much the story with the 2009 except there wasn’t anything to the nose, either. I paid $48, I think Zachys since put it on sale for $41, but it’s still overpriced for what it is.
Ouch. We got the 2008 for, I think, $39 so I couldn’t be too harsh on it as a value for money deal but it’s no d’Angerville. The Morey sounds interesting though.
