2008 Domaine Charvin Châteauneuf-du-Pape - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (12/31/2011)
Great producers come thru in off years! This is lovely! Opened and poured into a Burg glass about an hour before drinking. First taste at opening though was very promising. I can sort of see the comments about bitter and medicinal if you only drinking this by itself but with food it all comes together very nicely. Great weight, raspberry, minerailly, spicey, herbs. Delicious and balanced. Awesome for $38. I happily have two more blts to drink over the next 3 - 10yrs. Only knock is like most CDP the Alc could be lower, and if it bothers you, don’t drink CDP or southern Rhones every night. (92 pts.)

I think I dropped this 2 points from you for the alcohol I noticed on the finish: it competed too much with the fine savory fruit that this has. But like you said, a fine CdP from an off year. I have more than a few so I’ll be able to check in with them from time to time. I’m sure aging won’t be a problem for them.
Craig, agree completely (I posted a note on this a few days ago). I didn’t pick up any noticeable alcohol, however. I wonder if the spice flavors are what you observed to be alcohol?
Cheers
Alan, ping us if you make it back out here again. Brad ask me about you recently.
Will do! In fact, might be later in Jan or early Feb.
Did 05-08 vertical of this in Oct.
Love 'em (although the 05 was slightly corked–only bottle with no backup) ![[blush.gif] blush](/uploads/db3686/original/2X/6/69fdd33e0271fef98daa1424c2be1bf616ee7243.gif)
