TN: 2008 Chappellet Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Signature (USA, California, Napa Valley)

  • 2008 Chappellet Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Signature - USA, California, Napa Valley (11/6/2012)
Cabernet Sauvignon 77% Malbec 9% Petit Verdot 5% Merlot 9%

Opened this wine in celebration of the end of campaign 2012 which has been going for - it would seem - YEARS.

Popped in cellar to breathe for several hours. Then warm up for a little less than an hour.

Dark red in the glass with lumpy sweet cherry notes on the nose. Flavors of dark dark cherry framed by a nice tannic dustiness and a hint of…strawberry? or raspberry?

Very tasty, will wait another year or so to open the next one. (91 pts.)

Mark, thanks for the note. Do you have any of the 2006 or 2007? If so, how does the 2008 compare in your opinion?

Alex, I’ve drunk through the ’07 (no ’06) that I had and I think it was a bit brighter IIRC. I’ll dig up my notes and see what I said vs what I remember!

Alex, I enjoyed the 2007 quite a lot but, sadly, ignored my own recommendation to “Hold until >= 2013”. I done drank it all up! Similar notes to the 2008, dark cherry with dusty tannins: good juice for the tariff.
