Just received a 6-pack a few weeks ago so I figured it was worth checking in and seeing if it lived up to the glowing praise from Meadows and Tanzer - immediately clear from the first sip that this one is a wonderful Perrieres - though obviously young and very vibrant, it still shows a nice breadth across the palate and an expressive nose of minerals/steeliness/citrus - on the palate there is a backbone of acidity that makes it firm and penetrating - a classic Perrieres showing first and foremost the profile of stone/minerality - clean and surprisingly long at this stage - though the combination of acidity and minerality at this stage makes it almost “painfully” young… if it develops and provides added complexity as it ages, it should be even better in a couple of years. 94+pts with nice upside for the future.
I have little experience with Bouchard whites - only a few here and there over the years - but based on the reviews and finding some excellent pricing I bought this one, the Genevrieres, the Corton Charlemagne and the Montrachet (I think all Domaine bottlings) - very happy with this one and if the CC and Montrachet are as big a step up as the BH reviews suggest, then they will be an incredible treat. For the price I paid and even the current $70-80, it strikes me as a good value for a high-end expression of white Burgundy…
So, anyone else try this one? What do you think of it or other Bouchard whites?
I’ve always liked the Bouchard whites for early drinking but quite frankly won’t purchase due to premox. I find they’re made in a full style that has early appeal. They remind me of the Boillot whites I’ve tried.
By the way, did you do that Brulees tasting ? Any notes ? Leftovers ?
A few months ago I attended a tasting of a few 08 Bouchard whites put on by Greg K at Envoyer. Phillipe Prost, the winemkaer at Bouchard, was there given some notes on the vintage. I usually am a Perrieres guy but I tasted that along with the Genevrieres and bought the Genevrieres. Maybe the Perrieres will blossom but the Genvrieres was a little more voluptuous onthta night. BUT all of those wines you ought will be great in due time…
The Genevrieres is a great wine, I was able to buy 3 more before they disappeared but it’s high time to drink another. Love that stuff and it wasnt crazy expensive to acquire.
Jerry, what up with the Bouchard thing at Envoyer? Was this invite only? I never heard about it and I for sure would have showed up for that gig.
Just opened a 2004 Bouchard Meursault Perrieres. No sign of Premox. Fresh and tight. Not much nutty influence. Very minerally and with lemony with good depth of fruit. Will let it open up a bit more…
As much as I enjoyed this bottle, I wouldn’t necessarily say that it is for early drinking (not quite the Meadows 4yr wait but still needs some time in the cellar) - of course there is the premox concern so I suspect I will move through them faster than I ordinarily would - hate to have to do that on something like the Corton and Montrachet but would also hate to have the bottles be dead. Overall I am buying much less white Burgundy then before and admittedly only when the pricing is very, very beneficial.
Didn’t participate in the Brulees tasting unfortunately.
Although I’m also concerned about The Mox, I can’t stop buying or drinking white burgs. If I lived in a warm climate they might be my favorite wine. We popped a 2005 Sauzet Batard the other night that was just killer. Great breed and class with no heaviness whatsoever.
