TN: 2008 Benanti Etna Bianco Superiore Pietramarina (Italy, Sicily, Etna DOC)

2008 Benanti Etna Bianco Superiore Pietramarina - Italy, Sicily, Etna DOC (8/31/2014)
Light hay in color, nose is enticing, subtle fruit with a sense of crushed stones and hint of anise; on the palate is a wine light enough to float on air, but with a delicate intensity and depth of flavor that weaves through a multitude of complex layers: notes of apple skin, anise, stone fruit, roasted nuts, granite, all beautifully balanced with moderate acidity, and a lengthy, mineral finish. Really lovely. (92 pts.)

Update a couple hours later: this continues to show better and better, like a cross between a Trimbach Frederic Emile, and a great vintage Chablis Les Clos. Amazing quality.

10pm: Just finished the bottle, showing more saline, and just fabulous length and minerality on the finish.

$40, and beats the absolute living crap out of wines 5 times its price.

Alan, have you tried the 09 of this? Comparisons?

Markus, nope, this was the first of these I have tried, from any vintage (on the recommendation of a winemaker friend who placed it very highly). I just bought a bunch of the 2009, will find out soon

Great notes, Alan. I had the '07 a few months ago and it was just lovely. The wine ages really well, too.
