2008 Beckmen Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc Estate- USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley (6/23/2009)
Still looking for that summer quaffer to buy a case of… Screw top. Light straw color. Strong nose of white grapefruit, pineapple and citrus peel… In the mouth, ginger, lemon, licorice and tarragon Good rich fruit and acidity. At this price, could be a six pack! (88 pts.)
Beckmen used to get a lot of press (on some forums) for many of their wines a few years back. Nice to see their SB is so appealing, have you tried the Hanna?
As for the Rose, I think it was at our (awful) Rose tasting last month… we didn’t know the ten roses would all be “off-putting”. I think the Beckmen was a little too sweet, but one of the better ones. Will check again.
I recall it having a touch of sweetness but not overdone. I only had it once and am waiting for Mikael to get back to me to see if I can add a few bottles to an order so I’ll look forward to trying it again. I found it to be have a bit more weight to it than most roses, which I enjoyed with some food off of the grill.
Had the '08 Rose Sunday. Very clean, crisp, and dry. Nice fruit from the Grenache, but not sweet. Beckmen wines are solid all around, and it’s great to have Mike back.
