2008 Arianna Occhipinti Il Frappato Sicilia IGT - Italy, Sicily, Sicilia IGT (4/7/2011)
Ripe fruited on the nose but not huge or forward. Clean and balanced palate. Lots of acid and the fruit doesn’t show the ripeness in the overt way it does on the nose. This is real nice and fresh in a way that such ripe wines rarely are. I would have liked more complexity at the price point though. Very nice.

hehe… I just picked this up over the weekend. I rather like Frappato and the last one I tried as a bit less pricy than this. These seem to go really well with salty/smoky foods btw. I have a TN to post on the 2009 Planeta Ceresuolo too - a 60/40 blend of Nero d’Avola and Frappato. The Nero d’Avola gives the wine more weight with the Frappato lifts it aromatically. Think, very roughly, a good Gamay.
Oh and if you’re into Sicilian wines at all… or really just wine, read Palmento: A Sicilian Wine Odyssey by Robert Camuto. Much like Kermit Lynch’s Adventures on the Wine Route, it immerses you in the place and people.
Thanks for the book rec. I’ll see if I can find a copy.
I’d buy more if it weren’t $35, nice spring wine.
Look for the Valle dell’Acate Frappato. About $18.
