TN: 2007 Westrey Pinot Noir Justice Vineyard

After last week’s thread on the '07 Westrey Oracle, I finally popped the '07 Justice. You know, I prefer the Oracle. Yes, the Justice is riper and more fruit centric, but I prefer the earthy complexity of the Oracle. There seems to be a little alcohol poking out of the Justice at this point too. Just comes down to you taste preference. This is a fragrant, berry centered pinot with nice acidity, a silky texture, but just a bit fruit centric for my preference. Either way, both of these wines are relatively dirt cheap here in Portland. Try them, see what you like, buy more. How’s that for a pinot prescription?

Unless you shop at Zupan’s where crappy Harris Ranch beef is featured as something special and the Westrey wines are more than they are when purchased direct from the winery. [suicide.gif]

Stunning value Pinots. I do tend to prefer their Oracle. Didn’t catch any heat in my 07 Justice a few weeks ago. If you really want to compare fruit profiles (not to mention heat), taste the 07 with the 06!

Just wait until you taste the '08s. Like all the others I’ve tried, including the '08 Evesham Wood WV a couple of nights ago, the aromatics are incredible.

I was sorry not to get to the Westrey’s other than the Pinot Gris, but the 08 Patricia Woods were remarkable.

I don’t know which is more baffling . . . that Mike Zupan has the chutzpah to charge what he charges, or the incredible stupidity of the people who buy things like Tide there.

No doubt. But…it’s the “experience” they’re paying for. That’s priceless!

Actually, it seems like Zupan’s is contracting. Fewer stores, fewer reasons to shop there. They need to do something. On the other hand, I took a walk through the newly remodeled Fred Meyer on 39th and Hawthorne and, whether or not it works, they’re clearly pulling out all the stops to compete with New Seasons.
