palate was dense in the middle with a residual sweetness that lingers
extremely big stuffing
this could go epic when the sugar softens and the nose gets kinkier with age (93 pts.)
in what context?
To me a 40$ bottle is a good value, even if it cost 3$ 20 years ago or 28$ 2 years ago
objectively, this was well worth the admission price.
I am quite cost sensitive. which is why I buy fewer Burgundy Grand Cru than i used to, but I can make it rain with german riesling. another reason to love German wines
I am talking about their cost relative to the cost of similar wines from WS’s peers like Doennhoff, Emrich Schoenleber, and Schaefer Froehlich. In comparison to them, Wagner Stempel has gotten incredibly expensive. I am not saying they are not worth it, but they are beginning to position themselves in rarified air, and I personally would rather buy the others I named for less than to splurge for WS.
Interesting. I had checked out the prices for the '07 vintage and ex-cellar, it’s not more expensive than Doennhoff nor Schaefer-Froehlich.
It’s arguable about the QPR but the '07 Spaetlese are textbook riesling and while they did not have the depth of, say, Doennhoff’s Hermannshoehle, they’re simply brilliant wines. If memory serves, that bottle went for about 20eur ex-cellar.
