I had this wine last night, opened it and followed it over a 4 hour period or so. Certainly, the wine is very silky on the mouthfeel. There is a lot of fruit on the palate, to the point of almost being jammy. The aromatic very incredibly shy the entire time it was opened, and I had a hard time getting much on the nose at all. Not a lot of complexity to this at all. I have to admit to being perplexed, partly because I am only learning about CdP’s over the last couple of years. I am not sure where this wine is going, or if it will look like a true CdP wine with age. Judgement and points reserved.
I think it depends on what you mean by “true” CdP.
I’ve had the '07 Mon Aieul twice, both time it showed well, but the first was better than the second, so I’d suspect it may now be in a bit of a dumb phase. To me Mon Aieul is a modern CdP. I have not had any older than 2000, but I suspect the 2007 will end up in a similar vein in that time frame.
I guess I am not sure if this is going to develop the complexities of a CdP. With age, there will be some secondary and tertiary aromas that develop, but I usually see the complexity early on still, and I didn’t see that last night. I guess what I am saying is that the wine was nice but pretty straightforward, and I am not sure if a CdP liek that is ever goign to develop the kind of complexity I am looking for.
Bob, what are the secondary aromas, and what are the tertiary aromas?
Bob, your note reminds me of the 2000. 2001 and 2003 Mon Aieul at a similar age. I haven’t received mine yet to taste, but give it some years before you judge it. The others now rock.
That is a good data point, Jack.
