2007 Turley Zinfandel Tofanelli Vineyard - USA, California, Napa Valley (6/19/2010)
From the historic Tofanelli Vineyard, planted in the Napa Valley in 1929. 15.7% alcohol on the label, but undetectable. I heard that this wine was still very primary, so I opened (and corked) it last night. Dark, almost opaque ruby red. Expressive red fruit aromas. On the palate, rasberries, cassis and a touch of pepper. Very rich and well balanced with a lingering aftertaste. I love what the Turley team (Larry Turley, Ehren Jordan and vineyard manager Tegan Passalacqua) do with California’s historic vines. This particular wine responded very nicely to an early opening, which tells me it will continue to develop complexity and nuance in the bottle. (92 pts.)
