TN: 2007 Thomas Dundee Hills Pinot Noir

I typically open one of these in December, after my shipment arrives, just to get an initial date point. After an ‘02 Jean-Barc Brocard Extreme’ Chablis Premier Cru and '02 Faively Latricieres-Chambertin with Christmas dinner, I needed another few sips of something eles and heard this calling my name.

Transluscent dark magenta color. Darker than I expected. This may be almost as dark as the '06, but I would have to pull one to compare side by side. An elegant airy nose that starts to open up with a couple hours of air. Hints of red Dundee Hills fruit interlaced with a touch of maple smoked bacon. The nose is already seductive and has the potential to be killer with bottle age. Silky mouthfeel with refined tannins and good acidity. Overall, the palate is underdeveloped, as expected, at this early stage. However, the pieces are all here. I don’t think that anyone who purchased this will be disappointed. I’ll be interested to taste the leftovers tomorrow.

When I consumed this wine with a friend it was gone in three hours. I would love to follow this wine from 2 hours open until about 6 hours to see how it develops. From talking to John, he thinks the wine will age very well and this brings me hope 10 years from now. I really like his wines at the 7-10 mark.
