2007 Sleight of Hand Chardonnay The Enchantress Raj Majal - USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Yakima Valley (5/31/2009)
Served with the Reidel Chardonnay Extreme and lovely piece of cedar planked copper river salmon and homemade dill sauce. The nose here shows it new world hand, sporting delights such as freshly halved pear, honeysuckle, and just a touch of the 1 year old French Oak, rich and spicy. Quite a contrast then when this hits you’re palate, as this baby carries quite the dry punch, almost shockingly so. It doesn’t carry the minerality of a fine Chablis, yet maintains a terrific grip and tenacity, with zero excess fat. In fact, this is rather wound up at present, and probably in need of a couple of years of sleep to unfold to what could be a truly outstanding wine, but still damn good today. Score one for Trey! Thanks for the note. I have to admonish you for serving it with Copper River Salmon but what’s a guy to do. At least you didn’t make Copper River Salmon and drink Oregon Pinot!!
That does it! To bad I won’t be at Mikes house for the champagne tasting…Phil Franks and I would kick your ass for that. I’m having a CR Sockeye tonight with an Oregon Pinot.
It’s kind of a running joke with Dale and me. I’m a native Seattleite but don’t like salmon or coffee. Too many salmon fishing trips as a youngster and then 3 weeks of non-stop salmon madness. Can’t stand the stuff now. The Oregon Pinot thing has taken off as Dale keeps plunking down $40 a bottle for the stuff but always seems to be underwhelmed by them so I tease him about wasting his money. Plus, on my 5 year anniversary last July I had the 2006 Patty Green Estate Pinot with dinner at Lark and it was virtually undrinkable. Additionally, as a Washingtonian, I’m conditioned to despise all things Oregonian!
