TN: 2007 Schäfer-Fröhlich Riesling Kabinett (Germany, Nahe)

  • 2007 Schäfer-Fröhlich Riesling Kabinett - Germany, Nahe (1/20/2010)
Nose on the reserved side picking up with air. Palate is seamless and lovely showing citrus heavy on the lime with light sweetness barely drifting into the sugary if at all. Weighty but not heavy with a clean line to a tart acidic finish. The wine making here is a step above. My first go with this producer and surely not to be my last. Best in a couple more years.

They make delicious wines!

Tim Frohlich is the superstar of the Nahe and has been since the 2002 vintage. Don’t believe the Donnhoff hype.

I have a bottle of 06 Spatlese that I am hoping to let rest a few more years but my curiosity is perked now. A lovely wine at any price and was only $20 from Garagiste for the Kabinett.

I’m not big on trocken or halbtrocken Riesling Serge. I’ve like some dry Riesling from Austria and occasionally Alsace but I think it finds its best expression in the non-dry versions from Germany.

I’ve seen your raves on this guy Lyle. Great call. But Donnhoff still makes some damn good wines though you pay a premium these days for the pleasure.

Had a bottle of the '07 Goldkapsel for my birthday last April. Very young, but amazing depth. Wish I had bought more.

Donnhoff is unquestionably great, but SF is also pretty great and better qpr as well. I love these wines.
