2007 Saint-Cosme Côtes du Rhône - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône (1/28/2009)
This showed much better on day 2. Initially somewhat tight nose showing some burnt scrub and a bit of brett with the palate on the austere side with a medium body. Day 2 brings out some slightly fat dark berries on the nose along with the garrigue and brett again. Palate has gained some weight especially in the midpalate where the fruit is somewhat generous. Decent acidity and a long building grip. This clearly needs some time but patience will easily pay off the $13 this is. Hold or decant.

hi Chris
Great note on a very good qpr. Have you seen my thread in Asylum. Are we friends now PS i really DO like Tom cruise, but very dissapointed that he hurt my godess Nicole Kidman
Thanks, Chris. I’ve been drinking these so much it has become my house red. Love the qpr and goes great with food.
Best, Mark.
I’m definitely getting a couple more bottles Mark. Great buy and you are right about food friendly.
I had the St Cosme as well but prefer the “La Garrigue” CdR. It’s better and a couple bucks cheaper.
Thanks for the tip Rob. I’ll look for it. The more I find good Rhones under $20 the less I want to ones over that price.
The La Garrigue is good. I’ll second that. So is Charvin and Janasse.
Thanks for the recommendation guys. The La Garrigue is definitely better. I posted a note.

I’m going to try the St.-Cosme tonight. How long do recommend for the decant?
I bought a case on Friday at Costco $12.99 a bottle…will open one tonight.
I got a case too, at $13 a bottle…so many people wanted to share the case that I only have four left!
Bill, how long are you going to decant it?
I was gonna open it around noon or so and start hitting it around 5PM.
This is young and dense so I don’t think any amount of decanting will hurt it. I do think the La Garrigue is a step better for the money.
KL had hundreds of the la Garrigue across all of their stores… 300 in redwood city alone… they are completely sold out of the stuff.
Dark as night. No brett here, but it needs to sit in the decanter for a few more hours before consumption. Should go nicely with a nice 20oz rib-eye and duck fat roasted red skinned yukon gold taters for dinner.
Had a bottle of this this afternoon with some friends. Was much more fruit forward upon opening but then went more rustic with air with the brett peaking through. Still a solid buy at $15.
After five hours in the decanter the wine began to shine. Very, very good deal at $15 and under. I will venture back to Costco over lunch and get another case as this can be a house wine.
I bought a case as well and am finding it hard not to drink a bottle a night. I havent had any of the Brett at all. Just a great wine at an unbeatable price.
Thanks for the note. Had this recently and my experience (more on the positive) mirrors yours. A nice QPR.
Cheers,
