If you love Napa Cabs, you’ll have to love this one. Big, dark, rich, and tannic. It is very dark. Initially the smell and taste were not matching with the nose more muted and then the wine shouts out in the mouth. Full bodied with chewy tannin and good acidity. Lots of dark and red fruit. With some air the toasty oak becomes more apparent but it is very nicely integrated, and adds spice rather than wood. the nose also is fantastic. Drinking great right now, but if you are tannin averse then leave it alone for a few years. This is not one of those Cali Cabs that have some sweetness to it. The finish is very long. It should pair great with steak, lamb, venision or other meats.
Excellent wine at any (reasonable) price, but at $55…wow. If you have 6 or more don’t be afraid to pop a cork.
Thanks for taking one for the team! Great notes! I could only afford 3 way back when,s when mine get here they’ll sleep with my stil resting '06’s… -mJ
Eric, approximately 1.5 hours. After that wine was re-bottled and drank over 5 hours. Best showing the 1st hour of drinking (not decanting) and the last 2 hours. The 2 hours that were not the best is when the wine starts getting the backbone of oak. After 2 hours of spicy oak revealing itself if integrates very nicely in the form of spices.
All of you guys are in for a treat, but if you have 3 bottles I would let it settle for a few years.
