TN: 2007 Reynvaan Family Vineyards Syrah The Contender

  • 2007 Reynvaan Family Vineyards Syrah The Contender - USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley (1/24/2010)
Popped and poured. I think this is my second or third go round with the 07 Contender, and as expected, it delivered the goods. The aromas remind one of the vineyard next door, that is a little animal funk, and then the good ol Syrah standbys kick in: iron, blood, blackberry and a touch of fresh flowers. A complex and spherical palate, sporting more than adequate doses of dark fruit, rose petal, saline / green olives, and a skilful touch of new wood. Low acid and the tannins allow for an easygoing experience, and medium plus finish that is filled with class. Interestingly, after about two hours, the wine seem to shut down a bit, so I might advise a hold for a couple of years if you only have a few bottles, but a damn fine drink for sure. (92 pts.)
