TN: 2007 Raul Pérez Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León Prieto Picudo

Possibly heat damaged in transit–opens with nuttiness. Glistening ruby color. Cranberry/sour cherry fruit. A floral note. Very soft mouthfeel, but astringent tannins linger on the palate long after swallowing. Acidic. No score due to possible flaw.

I was very interested to try this wine–I’ve loved the cheaper Mencias I’ve had, and I’d read great things about Raul Perez. I fear I may have mistreated iit at some point on its journey from NY to London–it certainly didn’t taste outright cooked or anything, but something wasn’t quite right at the start, and some of its complexity may have been muffled. I enjoyed it but don’t think it’s a $70 wine unless it was more flawed than I thought. Has anyone else had great experiences with this producer?
