TN: 2007 Quivet Cellars Syrah Las Madres Vineyard (USA, California, Napa Valley, Carneros)

  • 2007 Quivet Cellars Syrah Las Madres Vineyard - USA, California, Napa Valley, Carneros (12/20/2009)
Decanted for three hours. Beautiful purple hue. Nose of blackberry, plum, and underbrush. Spicy with plenty of acidity. Oak is there but not in an intrusive way. Very well made and can only get better with age. Went great with Flannery hanger steak. I have 5 more bottles that I will lay down and see how they evolve. Mike Smith is doing some great things at Myriad and Quivet.

Thanks for the note on this Clem, I loved the '06, but haven’t opened an '07 yet. Will rectify that soon.

Clem, recently had the 2008 Quivet Syrah and thought it was amazing. Have not had any prior years so good to read your note. The wine is very well made. In the case of the 2008, was nice young. Was curious how it would hold up over time. Put a cork on a half filled bottle without any preservation method used the night before, and set it on the counter. The next day, sampled it a few times thoughtout the day, and still an awesome wine. No notable sign of oxidation, which was quite interesting, and frankly, surprising in a good way!

It’s very nice to see such a high quality Syrah out of Carneros . . .

Nick- love the 08 and what Mike does with Syrah. Had the 08 Hulda Block yesterday. In great shape and still pretty young. Gave it a few hours of air. Really nice. Hearing good things about Mikes 2010 and 2011 as well. Hope to try both on our upcoming trip.
