Words fail to capture how brutally disappointing this was. Shit day with some of my staff out sick and all I was thinking about was riffing on David Chang’s chicken wings and having this wine. Based on general commentary from people whose palate and insight I respect like John Gilman, I suspect that this wine was reduced. It was a screwcapped wine. I did find that the same producer’s Pinots have been lovely and full of fruit and life. Even some hours later, it is still corpsey.

2007 Pyramid Valley Riesling Riverbrook Vineyard - New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough, Brancott Valley (12/14/2009)
Crushing disappointment. Flat, stripped of all flavor. My wife likened it to Cold Duck. Suspecting a very reduced wine, I decanted and swirled insanely. Some peeks of Riesling aromas like petrol, but absolutely no fruit or anything lively. Utter lifeless, but not oxidized or the like. Bleech.
