TN: 2007 Pyramid Valley Cabernet Franc Growers Collection Howell Family Vineyard

Very complex nose of tobacco, dried italian herbs, a touch of green and wild blackberries.

Black and redfruited palate, with blackberries giving way to brambly rapsberries. Quite a plush wine that very much reminds me of a top quality warm year Lorie Cabernet Franc. Good acid at the finish and decent tannic grip suggest this can go a few years yet.

A touch of heat peeps through on the finish and if I have any criticism of this wine, it might be a touch too ripe for my palate. Still color me impressed, I like what’s going on here. (91 pts.)

Inspired by the NZ Syrah discussion, i popped this (non-Syrah) tonight.

Very good value wine from memory as well.

Interesting Clayton. You can say lots of things about PV but not that they (ever) make boring wines. This sounds good.

Best, Howard

Thanks Clayton, got one left myself and was curious as to how it was progressing. Looks like now or the next 12 months is the go for opening…

I actually find the growers collection wines consistently very good. It’s the home vineyard wines that tend to be quite variable especially given the price point. They can hit higher highs though.
