I recently took delivery of several cases of assorted wines from my off-site in California. From that delivery, this Chardonnay was the wine I pulled first. I have been waiting to try this in large part because of comments made about this wine by Berserkers.
I popped and poured this yesterday and am enjoying the second half of the bottle now. Frankly, I am stunned by the quality of this Chardonnay while at the same time recognizing that I opened it too young. On opening, I got a pretty good hit of oak on the nose and in the mouth, but it quickly subsided to reveal tropical fruit, pear, orange peel, mineral, and burnt toast (that’s how we say it up in here). The most impressive thing about this Chardonnay is the mouth feel. There is a sense of weightlessness that I have not found in other domestic Chards, but the flavor profile is full, the finish is extremely long, and the wine has tremendous balance. This is not a big, buttery Chardonnay. Instead, it is flavorful, generous, and expertly crafted. Very, very good. I will wait on the other bottles to see how they evolve, but this one is a definite treat.
