TN: 2007 Pacalet Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru

A science experiment gone bad. Bacterially flawed, cloudy and sure to spawn some new, deviant form of life if given long enough in the glass. Spoiled cider would be a huge improvement.

Yes, it’s a bad bottle. It is one of the worst bottles I have ever had the displeasure to experience.

I think the guys from “Newsweek” must have had a bottle of this stuff.

IIRC Pacelet uses little to no so2 right?

I bought a few 2007 and 2008 Pacalets from Chambers a couple of years ago just to see what was up.

None were that bad, as in off, but none were near compelling. OK in a natural style generally. Poor value.

Claude Kolm loves Pacalet. I can’t quite figure that one.

Checking my notes I appear to have had a “good” bottle of the 2007 Chambolle 1er. Still didn’t do it for me though. “Rather have Jura for 1/2 the price” is the gist of my Pacalet notes.

I bought a bunch of Pacalets from that Chambers sale as well. Most were great, just one bad one - the 07 Chambolle 1er cru.

The 07 Chambolle 1er Cru had issues. At least the bottles I’ve come across on the right coast.

Most Pacalet is much, much better than that.

This was bad on release, but I kept one bottle aside to see if it could possibly get worse with time. It did.

Had this at a restaurant. Sommelier tried his best to warn me off but I was willing to take the gamble. Definitely some funk and a hint of spritz in there but that aside it was lovely. I can still taste it now, 2 years later!

Bummer–it appears I picked some of this up at the same sale. I still have not tasted–at least one positive poster.
