TN: 2007 Navarro Vineyards Zinfandel (USA, California, North Coast, Mendocino County)

Enjoyed with homemade chicken tacos. I had a glass of this and am surprised to see the lowish scores here on Cellartracker. This wine is very tasty and certainly better than I remember at the winery earlier in the year. Perfect dark, rich, brambly Zin fruit, a little chocolate and loads of black pepper. No heat with good enough acidity and this bottle drank extremely well. 88-90/100 (89 pts.)

Velebil when are we going to ring in a little holiday cheer? [tease.gif]

Anytime…although we do leave for Austin on the 21st or 22nd.

What are you guys doing Sunday December 13? Want to come down to the East Bay

I’ve only had Navarro whites - always a tremendous value. The Zin sounds quite interesting as well…

Not my favorite Zin. I get a bottle each vintage as part of the Navarro wine club, and along with the Chardonnay table wine, it is the first bottle I consume so that it doesn’t take up space in my cellar.

The Zin was very tasty and a bargain at sub $20. I think it was $17 or so on the wine club (Traci is a member).

Errol - I also had the white table wine/chardonnay over the weekend. It was decent enough for $12 or so.

I am surprised you didn’t like the Zin though. I thought it very tasty.

I’m looking forward to getting my hands on a case of the '07. I’m just finishing up my case of '06 and its been a dandy. Never the most rock star styled Zin, but always balanced, varietally correct and soild every year.

Thanks for the note, Tony.
Like many have posted, I also stick with Navarro whites. And an occasional pinot.
Had the '06 Syrah the night before Thanksgiving–overoaked and sweet.
The Zin sounds promising.

Dennis - I agree with Navarro regarding their white wines versus their reds for the most part. We get shipments a couple/few? times per year and having visited the winery earlier this year, reinforced to me that the white wines are the stars. The red wines to me, with a few exceptions, all have that “made” taste and are consequently boring to me.

This zin, however, has plenty of fruit, is varietally correct and has enough structure (acid) to keep it interesting and for sub $20…worth it/well priced.

As Casey said, it isn’t a rock star and won’t hit the highs of say Turley, Chase, Outpost, Carlisle, etc.

Isn’t there some guy on a tractor behind this wine, Casey???

Tom;

I don’t know what % EP fruit it is, but I’d guess maybe only 25-35%. They buy from a couple of other growers in the Ukiah area. My vines would be the young guys at 30+ years old!

+1 Always been a fan of this NOT OTT Zin. And the Old Vine Cuvee offers a little more depth and complexity.
