2007 Mas de Boislauzon Châteauneuf-du-Pape- France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (6/28/2014)
Totally open for business. Comes across as a very modern expression, with its candied red fruits, vanilla extract and almost gloopy mouthfeel. Lacking acids, but not sapidity. Washed down a peppered rib eye quite well, with absolutely no hard edges to be found - but no real complexity, either. In a crowd-pleasing, full-bodied, keep-it-coming style. Fun, and delicious, but certainly not serious. Not something I would repurchase except to have on hand for friends that like this style. 14% abv (integrated), drink thru 2021

NOSE: very ripe red and purple fruits; a bit earthy, with some black licorice leanings; medium to medium+ expressiveness, and the alcohol is a little noticeable, too.
BODY: medium-full to full bodied; slight bricking creeping in to the color.
TASTE: very rich; dark, earthy, smoky, and bitter; tannins are still a little present, the acidity is low, and the alcohol is noticeable; this is labelled at 13%, but it comes across as being closer to 15%; overall, I don’t see how this blossoms with additional age. Gut impression score is 87 – 90, and the upper end of that range assumes one is tolerant of “big” CdPs. Drink Now and over the next few years.
