TN: 2007 Maroon Cabernet Sauvignon Yountville

Never seen or heard of this winery before. Costco got some in at $30 a bottle. I looked at the winery website, and it was released at $42…so seemed like a decent enough discount, so I took a flyer on a bottle. Very glad that I did.

Bottle was opened and allowed to air out for about an hour or so. Very open and expressive on the nose with fresh flowers, vanilla and what I’ll call chocolate cake baking. Dark fruits up front with cherry, currants and licorice. Very fine tannins with just a hint of oak that are both already well integrated. Stated ETOH was 14.5%, but there was zero noticeable heat at all. I liken this to Dominus without the brett, and it is a steal at $30 a bottle.

This used to be called Crauford – name changed with either the 2007 or possibly 2006 vintage (I have '04 and '05 and can’t remember ever seeing '06 Crauford).

Thanks for the note! A local shop has this for $30 too & sounds like a must try. I have 1 bottle of '04 Crauford too which I’ll pop soon.

WTSO has had this once or twice.

I haven’t jumped on it through WTSO, but have heard its solid for the price… haven’t seen the Yountville, but I know I remember seeing a “Maroon Vineyard” (Howell Mtn) bottling on WTSO for ~$24, and a Spring Mountain (I think?) bottle for ~$19… have heard the Maroon Vineyard is a bit better…
