TN: 2007 La Fenêtre Syrah Alisos Vineyard

  • 2007 La Fenêtre Syrah Alisos Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County (10/12/2009)
Ruby/purple in color. This was a bit surprising at it drinks more like a Cotes du Rhone (or at least a Napa Syrah) than one from the Central Coast. No grilled meats, bacon fat, etc. It does have nice raspberry and dark cherry fruit. Very tight, but unwound over a few hours. I am sure cellaring a couple of years would help. This would be great at the table as its understated qualities would meld nicely. (90 pts.)

Interesting review . . . and no surprise that it drinks more like a CdR . . . this vineyard is a slightly warmer climate vyd compared to others in our area, and it is not known for ‘powerful’ syrahs a la neighboring vyds like Thompson, White Hawk, etc . . .

In addition, it’s made by someone who has worked in the restaurant business, so my g!ess is that it has a decent acid streak to make it food friendly . ;. .

Cheers!

Glad to see a positive review on Josh Klapper’s wine. A great guy, formerly of Sona, now a winemaker with a real passion for his craft. “Food friendly” is a characteristic common to all of Josh’s reasonably priced lineup.

Put on a little weight over night. It also got a touch candied. Funny, I often complain at Pinots from this area tasting like Syrahs. This Syrah is venturing over towards some of the full blown Pinot area. A very interesting wine.
