Day One: Intriguing floral nose [although the sickly-sweet smell of jasmine is trying to work its way through to the surface]. Great big gaping hole in the mid-palate where the acidity & minerality ought to be. Infused with an unpleasant bitterness which is not at all food-friendly.
Day Two: It’s improved enough that I’m not quite so furious with Kim Marcus as I was yesterday [when the working title of this tasting note was “Another Dud Courtesy of the Wine Spectator”]. Still not a trophy wine by any means, but it’s at least passable.
Tasted with a variety of different foods; drinks best with spicy-hot sausage [but then what Riesling doesn’t?].
Will not purchase again at this price point [general vicinity of $25], but would certainly consider it if I saw it in a grocery store at $7.99.
