- 2007 Joh. Jos. Christoffel Erben Erdener Treppchen Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (7/21/2009)
– cracked and poured –
– Tasted non-blind over 3 days –
– TN and score are from Day 3 –
– AP No. 2 602 041 003 08 –
NOSE: too sulphury on Day 1; on Day 3: tropical bouquet of lychee, pears, and papaya jellies; smells green – like a honeydew melon; no hints of underbrush or smoke.
BODY: light white-yellow color; medium to medium-full bodied; a bit spritzy on Day 1.
TASTE: what was way too acidic on Day 1 has improved considerably now, on Day 3 – there’s still plenty of mouth-watering acidity, but it’s not the make-your-face-pucker acidity that was present on Day 1; flavors of pear, lychee and apricot dominate; straight out of the fridge on Day 3, this came across like a sweet Kabinett … as it warmed to proper drinking temperature the sugar really intensified, making this come across as an Auslese with the lighter Spatlese mouthfeel – it was a bit too sweet for me, but I imagine that had a lot to do with opening this way too young. Finish has lengthened since Day 1 (approx. 45 sec.); 7.5% alc… Just a cranky baby right now … Hold.
B: 50, 5, 12, 17, 8 = (92 pts.)
