I’m gonna tear myself away from the fun I’ve been having over in The Asylum and actually contribute to the Wine Side of this place for a change!
First off, I gotta send out a big Thank You to Daniel Posner at Grapes. I can’t think of too many retailers that I can trust when I get an e-mail heralding a wine I haven’t tried before, but he is certainly on that very small list. I remember when I could say the same thing about the early Garagiste mailings, as well as hoards of others that fill my in-box daily, but I’m sure we all know that the need to make a buck kinda got in the way of honest wine recommendations in most cases. But not Daniel…a few months back, he sent out a pre-release offering for a CdR I had never tried before and he was impressed enough that he was practically gushing! That’s all I needed to hear and went in for a case…I mean, it’s CdR…not exactly gonna force me to sell my wife into slavery to pay for this one!
I picked it up yesterday and I gotta say, the Grand Bois “Trois Soeurs” is gonna be in my wheelhouse from now on. It’s deep blood-red in color, thick in the glass, and gives off big, dark fruit aromas and lovely spicy notes that immediately explode from the glass…and the initial palate attack is so wonderful I dare anyone to say this is a ten dollar wine! Full-bodied and oh-so smooth, it fills your mouth with jammy cherry flavors, tar, white pepper and herbs. It finishes with silky tannins and more of that pure fruit dancing around your tongue.
Search it out…buy it by the case…and support your local retailer!
