TN: 2007 Gary farrell RRv Chardonnay

Yum Yum Yum. Color: Straw yellow, golden hue, no browning or signs of oxidation at all. Bouquet: Green an red apples, slight buttered popcorn, fresh hay, creamy nose. Palette: Typical bright GF Chard. with nice acidity, probably pH equal or less than 3.3 but has the hallmarks of ML. Toasty oak, pear, green apple, opulent but fresh an clean. Finishes with a toasted nutty note. Pineapple/grilled and some stone fruit. Man-O-Man this is some juice. This wine has enough fruit and acidity to drink for at least three more years, that is saying a lot IMHO for a domestic Chard. Gary Farrel is up at the top of my list of Chardonnay and Pinot produces but one I think which may be over looked by many because of their “low Profile”.

Full Disclosed: I worked for GF a few years ago.

I visited the a winery a few months ago and was impressed with their entire lineup

Have you tried the Alysian chards that he’s now producing? Similar in style and quite tasty (as are the pinots).

I have had the pleasure of having most of the new Alysian releases and from working at GF have always had a soft pot for the Cresta Vineyard Chardonnay which is crafted under his Alysian label and also the Rochioli bottling is awesome. I also like the Floodgate bottling which are new single vineyard wines for Gary. Some of the best Pinots an Chardonnays in the RRV. I’m surprised the Anthill/Rhys heads around here don’t GF or Alysian which I think might suit their palettes.
