TN: 2007 Gaja Barolo Dagromis (Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo)

  • 2007 Gaja Barolo Dagromis - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo (8/12/2017)
Nicely enjoyable, well short of thrilling. Darker garnet color, enters medium(-) body, but gains weight by the second glass. Developing complexity, with red fruits and soil notes dominant at this time. Quite Burgundian in that it’s delicate, and lighter weight, but packs quite a bit of material on its slender frame. Tannins already nicely integrated; a very good food wine, with very fresh acidity. While it will likely continue to develop, not sure it’s going to get better from here, just different, so depending on how you like them, this is fully approachable now with a one hour double-decant. Now thru 2024. recommended

Thanks for the note, e had the Gaja Barbaresco 2007 earlier this week with a similar impression: almost burgundy like with a very high drinkability factor now. Not as austere and high in alcohol what I expected from 2007, this was a very pleasant surprise
