TN: 2007 E. Guigal Châteauneuf-du-Pape

    I bought 6 bottles in 2013 for $36 a bottle. Today, the current vintage is about $55, but I know this was stored for 12 years in my termperature-controlled cellar, so the "investment" was worth it.

    For an entry level CnDP, this has always performed well, and it continues to develop. We decanted this at about 6 pm, started drinking it at about 7 pm, and I saved a little until 11 pm. It continues to improve in the glass. To my surprise, it takes on more Grenache fruit flavor as it gets air in the glass and the raspberry is now moving to the front.

    Not yet on its downslope. Is it a tete de cuvee wine? No. Is it a properly aged Rayas? No. but for the price, it is outstanding and holding up the reputation of 2007 CnDP. According to Jeb Dunnuck, it is "80% old vine Grenache, 10% Syrah and the rest Mourvedre and other permitted varieties." Seems about right. (92 points)

Curious what the ABV is. Not sure upholding the reputation of the 2007 vintage is high praise, as most that I have had, including Rayas and Pignan, have been hot.

$55 seems a lot when one can find things like Pegau and Charvin for under $60. Back before 1990, when they were still buying the wine from the likes of Charvin, Barroche and Pegau, Guigal was a very good wine. Now, not as much, though it is reliable.
