TN: 2007 Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Brücke Riesling Spätlese (Germany, Nahe)

2007 Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Brücke Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Nahe (1/1/2015)
Interesting showing for this wine. When I first opened it there was an intensely tropical aroma of pineapple and mango. Once we got around to dinner that had calmed down a bit, with more mineral and some citrus poking in. It has shed some baby fat, so what was once a lush spätlese has become more linear, though still on the rich side. We left some in the bottle to check on it in 24 hours. Looks like it will be a long term keeper, as the balance is good.

We were lucky enough to host a tasting with Cornelius this year, and taste through a number of the wines, and I remember noticing a fair amount of tropical fruit on several of the young wines. So I’m glad to hear that I’m not the only one. Beautiful wines though, with pinpoint precision on the palate.

Have also had and enjoyed this. Similar experience. Needs to calm down some with air to take you out of the tropics.

Night two still gave tropical fruit, but also greater minerality.

PSA Wally’s ( of all places ) have these on sale now for $40.
