If this wine is any indication…I’m going to pay a lot more attention to 2007 white burgs!
2007 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis 1er Cru Montmains- France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru (4/4/2012)
I don’t know what it was with this wine tonight…but it was absolutely singing!! Wonderful purity, crystalline…just loaded with the right ripeness of fruit, dancing hand to hand with crisp lemon/lime, green apple skin acidity. Beautiful blossom, lilac florals…and to make it known where we are…a sea full of crushed shells and stones…chalk dust spice. We killed this bottle very quickly…stunning! (95 pts.)
And mine. However, I mainly took samples from Raveneau, Dauvissat and Billaud-Simon. A few bottles from other domaines I’ve tasted here and there over the time this vintage has been available, have suffered from a lack of stuffing to balance the phenomenal structure, resulting in punctured mid-palates.
generally speaking, 07 is stylistically between 04 and 08. but more variable. high yields nut not as high as 04. rot and hail in certain areas while others gave way to pure, just ripe, classic chablis filled with citrus fruit, iodine, sea shells…
haven’t had and didn’t buy wines from mountains, vaillon,… as iirc they were hit by hail and caused damage, uneven fruit set and problems that led to less than classic wines at the end. this is generally speaking. i am sure dauvisat, raven eau and fevre too are not your typical producers.
just thought i share some insight on 07 and this vineyard.
I can’t comment on the Leroy Aligote, but even a humble villages Auxey-Duresses from De Montille a couple years ago was very impressive. I have had nothing but joy from any of my 07 whites and wish I had more!
