TN: 2007 Domaine La Garrigue Côtes du Rhône Cuvée Romaine

  • 2007 Domaine La Garrigue Côtes du Rhône Cuvée Romaine - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône (2/4/2009)
Rustic nose with some spice among dark cherry/raspberry fruits and a definite note of brett. Lots of rich dark red fruit on the palate showing good concentration if a bit wound up right now. Didn’t open up a whole lot over 4 days but held on with no signs of oxidation. This would seem to want some time in the bottle and with the tannin and acid structure I think this will go for quite a while. A great bargain at $13.

After posting a note on the St Cosme CdR Rob MacKay and Mark Pecken recommended this to me and they were spot on. It is definitely better at a couple bucks cheaper. Great value and should go for quite a while. On the rustic side but plenty of fruit. Going to pick up a few more for the cellar.

I recently opened one and agree that it has potential although it was considerably better on day two. I have purchased quite a few of the 07 CdR’s and they are going to be great wines within the next year or so.

They seem to be well structured and packed with fruit such few dollars. It was odd that I didn’t really see this develop a lot over the few days open like you did but I have little doubt it will get better. Thanks for the input.

After being a pretty regular buyer of the 05 Domaine La Garrigue, I finally came across the 07 in a local shop. This was without a doubt one of the best CdR’s I have had. Deep, complex, structured, and excellently balanced.

I agree it took quite a bit of time to come together, but once it did (which for me only took about 4 hours in the decanter), I couldn’t have asked for more from this wine.

I had the St Cosme as well last week, and while I quite enjoyed it, it was pretty one dimensional.

Even at this young age, the La Garrigue is the best of the 07 CdR’s I’ve had, and it is just going to get better with age.

A big ditto. It was in a local retailer’s “Best of 2008” case and they had it right. All 3 of the wines in the case (including an Argentine Malbec and Spanish Grenache) are good but this one has a depth that the others can’t approach. Pretty compelling for a $12 bottle of wine.

I’m gonna have to pick a couple up as I loved the '05.

Purchased this after the write-up by Brad Coelho about '07 Rhone values. I am just begining to venture outside the US, mostly for value as the prices in the US have continued to increase, even for low to mid range wines. My impressions are similar to the notes above, and I will continue to search out similar value wines. Great QPR and well worth finding.
