2007 Domaine Grand Veneur Côtes du Rhône Villages Les Champauvins - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône Villages (2/2/2010)
Needed a wine to go with Roundtable pizza (Arthur Supreme for $10= guilty pleasure). Cork perfect. Popped and poured. Halfway through the bottle after 90 minutes… will ammend if anything changes dramatically. 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre.
Color is good ruby red. The nose shows the grenache: raspberry and redcurrant with more of a floral component than spice or funk. In the mouth, a sweet black cherry fruit dominates with some redfruit, and touch of tar on the smooth finish. Decent acidity. May develope some in the bottle, but IMHO not worth losing out in the short term. Excellent QPR and pizza wine. (89 pts.)
