2007 Domaine Faury St. Joseph Vieilles Vignes- France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, St. Joseph (1/29/2010)
Smooth and creamy raspberry, currant, plum, smoked cherry fruit…lots of blood iron, meat, leather, black pepper, graphite powder, violet florals. Not as expressive as the 2005…but has the same character and tastes…just more in its shell. Doesn’t seem too tightly structured…just mellower than the '05. Tasty Rhone…but the '05 is better. (92 pts.)
Nice note, Brian. I’ll definitely pick up a bottle of the '07 if I run across, it sounds right up my alley.
I enjoyed the '05 but remember thinking it was pretty primary when I had a bottle a couple of years ago and I tucked my others away. Have you opened one of those recently by chance?
Not since the 2 I had in 2008…both bottles were excellent, with the second one a little better than the first. Btw, I had asked a question about the name…see the pic on the '07 says “Domaine Faury”…and the '05 says “Philippe Faury”? Do you know if they just changed the name? Looks to be the same wine.
No, I don’t know anything about that. Kermit Lynch’s catalog refers to it as Domaine Philippe Faury, but there’s no explanation about any official name change given there.
